Meeting in Telavi, at the Administration of State Representative-Governor in Kakheti Region
On August 7, 2020 in the frames of the Keep Georgia Tidy Project, Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis” organized a meeting in Telavi, at the Administration of State Representative-Governor in Kakheti Region regarding the development of the Regional Waste Management Plan for Kakheti. The meeting was attended by 16 persons, among them regional authorities of Kakheti and representatives of 8 municipalities of this region (Telavi, Akhmeta, Kvareli, Gurjaani, Sagarejo, Sighnaghi, Lagodekhi, Dedoplistskaro), which are engaged in teams working on the development of the Regional Waste Management Plan for Kakheti.
Issues discussed during the meeting were related to the Regional Waste Management Plan of Kakheti, municipal waste management, legal requirements regarding the development of a regional waste management plan.
Specific objectives of the “Keep Georgia Tidy” project are: to attain environmentally conscious generation and to reduce pollution from municipal waste (40%) and greenhouse gas emissions (10%) in Georgia By 2023.
One of the main components of the Project is the implementation of a modern waste management system in Kakheti Region and specifically the development of the Regional Waste Management Plan for Kakheti based on requirements of the waste management and regional development strategies and in close collaboration with and active participation of the regional administration of Kakheti, 8 municipalities and relevant stakeholders.
“Keep Georgia Tidy” Project is being implemented by a consortium of NGOs: Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis”, Keep Georgia Tidy and Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth-Georgia, through financial support of the Government of Sweden.
