Project Clean-Up Georgia (Phase III) Meetings in Autonomous Republic of Adjara and Racha-Lechkhumi & Kvemo Svaneti, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Guria and Mtskheta-Mtianeti Regions
On the 13-15th and 30th of March, 2018, Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis” arranged meetings in Autonomous Republic of Adjara as well as in Racha-Lechkhumi & Kvemo Svaneti, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti , Guria and Mtskheta-Mtianeti Regions. These gatherings were attended by representatives of respective regional administrations, City Halls of municipalities of these regions, limited liability companies, non-entrepreneur (non-commercial) legal entities and media.
Topics of the day discussed included: current waste management practices in Georgia; respective legal requirements; international obligations and European experience in the waste management sector; planning of waste management; assessment of impacts of existing dumpsites on ecosystems and population of neighbouring territories. Meeting participants demonstrated their interest for discussed topics that proves the desire of the civil society to live in clean environment and take active part in solution of waste management issues.
The project “Clean Up Georgia” is being implemented by a consortium of NGOs: Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis”, “Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth-Georgia” and “Raising of Ecological Awareness and Waste Management” with the financial support of the Government of Sweden.
