“Clean Up Georgia” Project (Phase III) Information on the Meeting Arranged in Gori Municipality City Hall

On May 18 ,  2016, Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Or ch is” arranged a m eeting in Gori Municipalit y City Hall with the participation of  Deputy  Mayor,  representatives of Swedish Embassy in Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova,  as well as the representatives of City Hall, Municipality Administration Gamgeoba) and Assembly (Sakrebulo), non-for profit juridical persons, media and others.

At the Meeting there was made a presentation by the Consortium member organizations about the carried out activities in the framework of the project. There were discussed the following issues: waste management in Georgia, legal requirements; international obligations and European experience; waste management planning; assessment of the impact of illegal landfills on the state of adjacent territories and on population health. The interest among the participants towards the meetings was keen which once more proves that the demand of the society is to live in clean environment and actively participate in the activities directed at the solution of problems connected with wastes.

The project “Clean Up Georgia”  is being carried out by a consortium of NGOs: Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis”, “Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth-Georgia” and “Raising of Ecological Awareness and Waste Management” with the financial support of the Government of Sweden, with the support of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia, in cooperation with the Ltd “Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia”.
