“Clean Up Georgia” Project Information of the Meeting held in Adjara
On June 12 , 201 5 , in the framework of the project “Clean U p Georgia – Raising of Public Awareness and Involvement in Solid Waste Management Improvement ” (Phase II) , Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Or ch is” arranged a Meeting in Adjara (Batumi city) with the participation of the representatives of Batumi City Hall, teh Adjara Autonomous Republic Environment Protection and Natural resources Department, Kobuleti, Khulo, Keda, Khelvachauri, Shuakhevi municipalities Assemblies and Administrations, representatives of Batumi city Company of Limited Liabilities “Sandasuptaveba”, Keda Municipality Company of Limited Liabilities “Komunalservisi” and others.
The aim of the Meeting was public awareness raising in the field of waste management. The following issues were discussed at the Workshop: modern systems of solid wastes management, EU member states experience; assessment of the impact of illegal landfills on the ecological status of the adjacent territories which was prepared on the basis of the study results carried out by Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Or ch is” . The interest among the participants was keen.
The project “Clean Up Georgia – Raising of Public Awareness and Involvement in Solid Waste Management Improvement ” (Phase II) is being carried out by a consortium of NGOs consisting of Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis”, Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth-Georgia and “Eco-Vision”, Union of Sustainable Development, with the financial support of the Government of Sweden.
