On August 18-22 , 2014, in the framework of the project “Clean U p Georgia – Raising of Public Awareness and Involvement in Solid Waste Management Improvement ” (Phase II) , Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Or ch is” arranged the Meeting s in Batumi and Kutaisi City Halls, in Khelvachauri, Khulo, Keda, Shuakhevi, Kobuleti, Zestafoni, Tskhaltubo and Kharagauli Municipalit ies with the participation of the representatives of Batumi and Kutaisi City Hall s, above mentioned Municipalit ies Sakrebulo and Gamgeoba, Local Authorities, LTDs, LEPLs , NGOs, mass media and others.
The aim of the Meetings was public awareness raising in the field of waste management. The following issues were discussed at the Workshops: international experience in waste management, planning of waste management, ecological problems connected with the pollution of environment and the impact of polluted environment on human health. There was discussion around the issues connected with the waste problems in above-mentioned City Halls and Municipalities. The interest among the participants was keen which once more proves that the demand of the society is to live in clean environment and actively participate in the activities directed at the solution of waste problems.
The project “Clean Up Georgia – Raising of Public Awareness and Involvement in Solid Waste Management Improvement ” (Phase II) is being carried out by a consortium of NGOs consisting of Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis”, Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth-Georgia and “Eco-Vision”, Union of Sustainable Development, with the financial support of the Government of Sweden.
