Meetings in the Municipalities of Telavi, Akhmeta, Kvareli, Gurjaani, Sighnaghi, Lagodekhi, Dedoplistskaro and Sagarejo, Kakheti Region

On 10-13 August, 2020, Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis” held meetings in the municipalities of Telavi, Akhmeta, Kvareli, Gurjaani, Sighnaghi, Lagodekhi, Dedoplistskaro and Sagarejo, Kakheti Region regarding adverse impacts of dumpsites existing in Georgia on environmental state and human health.

These meetings were attended by: representatives of the City Halls of the 8 municipalities of Kakheti Region, limited liability companies and non-entrepreneur (non-commercial) legal entities, total 80 persons.

Modern solid household waste management systems, international practises and experience of the EU member states in this sector as well as ecological issues linked to environmental pollution, adverse health effects of dumpsites and ways to solve these problems were discussed during the meetings.

The Keep Georgia Tidy Project aims to attain environmentally conscious generation, to reduce pollution from municipal waste (40%) and cut greenhouse gas emissions (10%) in Georgia by 2023 as well as to decrease by 10% the content of heavy metals in contaminated soil in targeted areas.

The Keep Georgia Tidy Project is being implemented by the NGOs consortium: Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis”, Keep Georgia Tidy and Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth-Georgia through financial support of the Government of Sweden.
