Meeting in the Administration of the State Representative-Governor in Kakheti Region, Telavi City
On 26th January 2021, Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis” (GSNE “Orchis”), in the frames of the Keep Georgia Tidy Project funded by the Government of Georgia, organized in the Administration of the State Representative-Governor in Kakheti Region, Telavi City a meeting on the development of Kakheti Regional Waste Management Plan. The representatives of Kakheti Regional Administration and Kakheti municipalities (Telavi, Akhmeta, Kvareli, Gurjaani, Sagarejo, Sighnaghi, Lagodekhi, Dedoplistskaro), who are engaged in the groups working on the preparation of Kakheti Regional Waste Management Plan, attended the meeting.
The work carried out by the working groups of Kakheti Regional Waste Management Plan, updating of information collected based on the questionnaire designed commonly by the Swedish experts and GSNE “Orchis”, as well as goals and objectives of the future action plan were discussed during the meeting.
The finalization of Kakheti Regional Waste Management Plan is envisaged by the end of May 2022. The responsibility on the implementation of this plan lies on the regional and municipal authorities, within their competence.
The establishment of a modern waste management system in Kakheti Region is one of the main components of the Keep Georgia Tidy Project that specifically induces the development of Kakheti Regional Waste Management Plan based on the requirements of the Waste Management and Regional Development Strategies in close collaboration with and active participation of the Regional Administration and 8 municipalities of Kakheti as well as other relevant stakeholders.
The meeting on the development of Kakheti Regional WMP was organized by GSNE “Orchis”, in the frames of the Keep Georgia Tidy Project funded by the Government of Sweden and being implemented by GSNE “Orchis” with the support of Georgian Ministries of Environment Protection & Agriculture, Regional Development & Infrastructure, Education & Science, and Culture & Sport, in cooperation with the Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia and Environmental Information & Education Centre.
