Project Clean-Up Georgia (Phase III) Meetings in Municipalities of Ninotsminda, Akhalkalaki, Kaspi, Gori and Mtskheta
On 1st, 7th, 8th and 11th of December, 2017, Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis” arranged meetings in municipalities of Ninotsminda, Akhalkalaki, Kaspi, Gori and Mtskheta. Representatives of City Halls, Sakrebulos, limited liability companies, non-entrepreneur (non-commercial) legal entities and media of these administrative unites attended the gatherings.
Topics of the day discussed during the meetings included: current waste management practices in Georgia; respective legal requirements; international obligations and European experience in the waste management sector; waste management planning; assessment of impacts of existing dumpsites on ecosystems and population of neighbouring territories. Meeting participants showed their interest for discussed topics that demonstrates the desire of the society to live in clean environment and take active part in solution of waste management issues.
The project “Clean Up Georgia” is being implemented by a consortium of NGOs: Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis”, “Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth-Georgia” and “Raising of Ecological Awareness and Waste Management” with the financial support of the Government of Sweden.
