“Clean Up Georgia” Project (Phase III) Information on the Meeting Arranged in Kaspi Municipality
On March 28, 2016, Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Or ch is” arranged a m eeting in Kaspi Municipalit y with the participation of the Governor of the mentioned municipality, his Deputy, representatives of Akhalkalaki, Tsinarekhi, Kvemo Chala, Kodistskaro, Zemo Khandaki, Khovle, Doesi, Teliani, Lamiskana, Kvemo Gomi, Samtavisi, Agaiani, Okami administrative units, Administration (Gamgeoba), organizations of limited Liability, non-governmental organizations, media and others.
At the Meeting there were discussed the following issues: waste management in Georgia, legal requirements; international obligations and European experience; waste management planning; assessment of the impact of illegal landfills on the state of adjacent territories and on population health. The interest among the participants towards the meetings was keen which once more proves that the demand of the society is to live in clean environment and actively participate in the activities directed at the solution of waste problems.
The project “Clean Up Georgia” (Phase III) is being carried out by a consortium of NGOs: Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis”, “Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth-Georgia” and “Raising of Ecological Awareness and Waste Management” with the financial support of the Government of Sweden, with the support of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia, in cooperation with the Ltd Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia.
