“Clean Up Georgia” Project Information of the Meeting held in Sagarejo Municipality
On May 28 , 201 5 , in the framework of the project “Clean U p Georgia – Raising of Public Awareness and Involvement in Solid Waste Management Improvement ” (Phase II) , Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Or ch is” arranged a Meeting in Sagarejo Municipality with the participation of the Administrator of Sagarejo Administration (Gamgeoba), Deputy Chairman of the Sakrebulo (Assembly), representatives of administrators of the villages of Badiauri, Patardzeuli, Tulari, Manavi, Kandauri, Iormuganlo, Chailuri, Verkhviani, Lambalo, Patara Chailuri, Mzisguli, the city of Sagarejo, Giorgitsminda, Ninotsminda; representatives of Sagarejo Administration (Gamgeoba) and Assembly (Sakrebulo), Center of Democratic Involvement, company limited, and others.
The aim of the Meeting was public awareness raising in the field of waste management and getting acquainted with the environmental pollution problems. The following issues were discussed at the Workshop: main aspects of the Law of Georgia – “Wastes Management Code”; assessment of the impact of illegal landfills on the ecological status of the adjacent territories which was prepared on the basis of the study results carried out by Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Or ch is” . The interest among the participants was keen.
The project “Clean Up Georgia – Raising of Public Awareness and Involvement in Solid Waste Management Improvement ” (Phase II) is being carried out by a consortium of NGOs consisting of Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis”, Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth-Georgia and “Eco-Vision”, Union of Sustainable Development, with the financial support of the Government of Sweden.
