The overall goal of the project is to Clean Up Georgia to challenge waste management opportunities in the country through Society Awareness Campaigns, introducing 3R systems and modern methods. Specific objectives are the following:
To mobilize Georgia communities to Clean Up Georgia under the motto ”Communities Carrying for Nature” under Clean Up the World campaign and place Georgia on Global Environmental Map.
Introducing new methodologies and 3R systems (reducing, reusing, and recycling); Increase public awareness on modern approaches of waste management systems, approaches, methodologies, experience of other countries to create new habits and demand of society reducing waste, reusing for various purposes and recycling for new business opportunities.
Project Description
The proposed project will conduct the actions indicated below: I. Mobilize Georgia communities to implement ”Communities Carrying for Nature” under Clean-up the World campaign and place all Georgia on Global Environmental Map.
II. Increase public awareness on modern approaches of waste management 3R systems (reducing, reusing, and recycling), methodologies, experience of other countries to create new habits and demand of society reducing waste, reusing for various purposes and recycling for new business opportunities.
Expected Results
Total polluted area, type and amount of waste is defined;
Popularization of waste problem in public; Public awareness is raised;
50% of population is informed about waste problem;
112 persons are trained on waste management issues;
Involvement of the population in the municipality activities in terms of waste management is increased;
Campaign “World Clean-up day” is established;
Areas polluted with solid waste are reduced;
As most cleaned–up areas are located in river valleys, consequently due to the conducted activities river
Pollution is minimised and water quality is increased significantly;
As a result of biorestoration and afforestation of cleaned–up areas greenhouse gas emissions are reduced;
Total polluted areas by solid waste are reduced in 10 % in Georgia;
Due to maximal mobilisation and informing of population on waste management demand on minimization and separation of domestic waste is created, insuring heath and business opportunities as well;
Business sector representatives are informed about best practice of waste management;
Some private companies will implement elaborated business proposals;
Business sector representatives are actively involved in solution of waste management problems and motivation on waste management in their business is increased.
